Martha E. Claiborne

Martha E. Claiborne was born on 13 March 1831 in Tennessee, probably at Liberty. Sometime before the 1860 census she married James S. Lones (1834-1904), the son of David Lones and Luticia (Browning) Lones. The family name is often spelled as Lonas in the census, but on most headstones the spelling is Lones. James served as a private for the Union during the Civil War in Company A of the 8th Tennessee Mounted Infantry Regiment. Martha died in about 1906 in Macon County, Tennessee.

He worked for most of his life as a custodian for Warren Township Schools. Cecil died on 19 July 2004 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

      3. Bessie Lonas (a twin) was born on 14 September 1922 in Macon County, Tennssee. She married a man with the last name Tinsley.
      4. Essie Frances Lonas was born on 9 January 1925 in Macon County, Tennessee. She married first to James Marvin Farley (1919-1976) and second to a man named Mr. Meador. She died on 23 March 2006 in Allen County, Kentucky.

      3. Pluma E. Lonas was born on 23 May 1924 in Macon County, Tennessee. She married Lennie Eugene Merritte (1921-2005) on 5 August 1950 in Trousdale County, Tennessee. Pluma became a homemaker and started housekeeping and raising her children as soon as she married. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her children and grandchildren. She cherished the time that she was able to spend with them. Her children said that she was a very “sweet mama.” In Pluma’s spare time, she enjoyed reading the Bible. Although Pluma did not attend church every Sunday, she was of the Missionary Baptist belief and told her family that she had been saved. Pluma died on 20 June 2012 in Macon County.

      5. Hillas Lonas was born in about 1928 in Macon County, Tennessee.
   6. Eddie Roosevelt Lones (“Ed”) was born on 4 April 1903 in Macon County, Tennessee. He married Geneva “Jennie” Higdon (1906-1958) on 5 March 1930. Ed died on 14 August 1945 in Barren County, Kentucky, from an accidental gunshot wound.
      1. Carl Edward Lones was born on 20 April 1931 in Allen County, Kentucky. Carl died on 29 July 1942 in Jefferson County, Kentucky, from polio.
      2. Mary Vanell Lones was born on 8 March 1935 in Allen County, Kentucky. She married John William Wade (1922-1990) on 12 January 1952. Mary died on 25 August 1980 in Warren County, Kentucky.
      3. Earline Hazel Lones was born on 12 November 1937 in Allen County, Kentucky. She married R. C. “Tom” Witcher (1928-1998) in about 1953. Earline died on 5 January 1999 in Allen County.
