Biographical Sketch

Ira Marshall Claybourn was born on 1 October 1882, in Jefferson County, Illinois. He married (1st) Maud Long on 15 April 1904 in Trinity, Texas. Ira worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a brakeman from 1903 until his retirement. He lived primarily in Mineola, Texas and died on 16 April 1967.

Maud died in 1919. Ira married (2nd) to Nancy Garnett, a nurse, who was born on 1 March 1890 and died 27 June 1974. It was Nancy who really reared the children.

1. Ethelyn Claybourn was born on 14 January 1906 in Trinity, Texas. She maried T.R. Herndon, and they had no children. Ethelyn was a registered nurse who worked at Baylor Hospital and lived in Dallas. She died very suddenly on 14 December 1956 and is buried in Wolfe City, Texas.

2. Wayne Claybourn was born 26 December 1907 in Palestine, Texas. He was a switchman for Southern Pacific Railroad and lived in Houston, Texas. Wayne married Myrtle Brown of Mineola, Texas (born 21 December 1921 in Golden, Texas). Wayne and Myrtle relocated to Cedar Hill, Texas in 1995. Wayne died on 5 May 1999 and Myrtle followed in death on 8 Novemeber 2001. Wayne and Myrtle had four children:

   1. Betty Joan Claybourn was still born on 12 April 1937.

   2. Kathryn Sue Claybourn ("Sue") was born on 3 December 1939 in Houston, Texas. She married Richard L. Smith on 14 August 1960 and they lived in Omaha, Texas. Richard was employed by Lone Star Steel and the couple also managed an eight acre farm. The two relocated to Houston, Texas and then Tyler, Texas. They had two children:
      1. Steven Waye Smith was born on 15 September 1962 and lived in Houston, Texas.
      2. David Lee Smith was born 8 June 1965 and worked as a missionary in Taiwan. Later he lived in Santa Ana, California. He married Gayle Elisabeth Bradshaw and the two had four children together: Taylor Lee Smith (b. 18 Feb. 1990), Alexa Lauren Smith (b. 20 April 1993), Nathan Bradshaw Smith (b. 20 Sept. 1996) and Gabriel Thomas Smith (b. 27 Sept 2000).

   3. Jerry Ray Claybourn was born on 2 October 1942 in Houston, Texas. He was married to and divorced from Lounell Wunsche Claybourn. Jerry lived in Denver. They had one child, Keri, born in 1975, who lived with her mother.

   4. Janis Claybourn ("Jan") was born on 17 September 1948 in Houston, Texas. She married C.J. Garner of Houston on 21 January 1967. Together they had one daughter:

         2. Brandon Anthony Piper was born on 27 May 1987. Brandon serves in the Air Force and is stationed in Louisiana.
         Jennifer married (2nd) Forrest Darrin Slaughter on 16 September 1989. Together they lived in Midlothian, Texas. They had one daughter:

3. Seawell Claybourn was born on 28 June 1909 in Mineola, Texas. He worked in Mineola as a car inspector for the Texas-Pacific Railroad. He married Thelma M. Hardy of Mineola, Texas, who worked as a licensed vocational nurse. Seawell died of cancer in Baylor hospital in Dallas on 12 June 1974, just two weeks before his retirement. They had one child:

   1. Nelda Evonne Claybourn was born 19 April 1935 and married Don Henderson. They lived at Grand Saline, Texas and had two children:

4. Juanita Claybourn was born on 21 August 1910 in Mineola, Texas. She married Ross Jones and lived in Dallas, Texas. They had four children:

   1. Curtis Lynn Jones was born on 10 June 1938 in Mesquite, Texas. He lived in Dallas and married on 21 December 1957 to Janie Fern Cornish (born 22 July 1939) in Pilot Point, Texas. Curtis died on 8 January 2000 in Georgetown, Texas. Curtis and Janie Fern had four children, listed below.
